Friday night the Costa Rica Cross Cultural Mission Team held a fundraising dinner and auction. (I’m working on updating the mission trip page with fiesta photos instead of fundraiser information, but am struggling with the layout.) We brought High-School-English-Teacher-Former-Student-Friend and her new boyfriend whom we met for the first time. (I gave my thumbs up later in a text). Our table is front and center.
There were a number of silent auction items. We bid on a couple, and ended up with some handmade kid-friendly pillowcases and a piece of art from Costa Rica. The exciting moment for me was during the live auction. The item–which had not been on the preview list, so we hadn’t had a chance to talk about it ahead of time–was a flight to lunch anywhere within reason in a private plane. There were a couple bids, and then ComputerGuy leaned over to me and asked, “What do you think about small planes?” He grew up flying in private planes with his dad. I said, “Go for it.” So he did. Then he kept bidding. And we won. So we supported the mission team, had a thoroughly enjoyable evening, and will be flying to lunch in a few weeks. How fun is that?
