what makes it easter?

On the RevGal’s Easter 11th hour preacher party, Martha says, “Whether the tune that makes it Easter is ‘Llanfair’ (Yes, I’m looking at you Presbyterians) or ‘Easter Hymn,’ you’re welcome here.” That may be my one, abiding–not regret–wistfulness maybe. “Christ the Lord is Risen Today,” loud, rousing, and triumphant. It’s my one visceral connection with Easter. There it is. “Llanfair”–not so rousing.

But it’s not the song that makes the day. Today we bring back the alleluias and we worship our risen savior and we know that the story didn’t end with the ascension. The story continues. We are the story.

And we got “Jesus Christ is Risen Today” with “Easter Hymn.” I’ll take it!

You are so right. We are the continuation of the story. Don’t have a clue what Llanfair is. Loved the Maundy Thursday service. I have my tear.

  3. Today we sang “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” and the choir (which I enjoyed singing in this year) sang “Worthy is the Lamb” from “The Messiah” and ended the service with the “Hallelujah” chorus. You gotta love great songs.

Speaking of songs, I put on Keith Green’s “Easter Song” as I got ready for church this a.m.:)
