I have two living grandparents which is pretty amazing. My dad’s dad is 100 and my mom’s mom is 87. Yesterday my mom and my uncle made the decision to move my grandmother into the memory unit of her assisted living facility. Physically, she seems to be doing fine. Mentally, not so much. They work with their patients to give them a good life. My grandmother may feel like she can help some of the other residents. This is a woman who loves life best when she can serve others. She has not been able to do this much since she moved into the residential facility.
On my dad’s side, my aunt just emailed to say that Grandpa is retaining fluid and not breathing well. Even in 2010, the body cannot go on forever. His mind is still sharp. We visited last summer, when Squeak was a couple months old. Should we try to go one more time?
