In my church job, I’ve been working on the Christmas Pageant and Advent stuff. On December 1, we are going to have a “Pageant Rehearsal and Advent Family Activity.” Between rehearsing and costuming and so on, the kids–and anyone else who comes–will have a chance to make “Advent Candle Holders.” They’re not wreaths; they’re simple and pretty and should work nicely.
We’re then including a “Household Advent Liturgy” in this year’s church Advent Devotional Guide that families/households/individuals can use in their homes, maybe once a week, maybe every day.
The theme for Advent this year is stars, so I’ve been playing with “star” scriptures in what I’ve been doing with pageant and other things. Here’s what I’ve worked out for the household liturgy:
A Household Advent Liturgy
Read the opening each time you light the candles.
Begin with Candle One, and add a candle each week
Opening:
I see him, but not now;
I behold him, but not near—
a star shall come out of Jacob…
Today, we light these candles
and we wait for Jesus, The Bright Morning Star
Candle One:
We light this candle
and wait, hopefully, for the Star,
Jesus,
The Light of the World
Candle Two:
We light this candle
and wait, faithfully, for the Star,
Jesus,
The Light of the World
Candle Three:
We light this candle
and wait, expectantly, for the Star,
Jesus,
The Light of the World
Candle Four:
We light this candle
and wait, joyfully, for the Star,
Jesus,
The Light of the World

Nice! May I use this, too? With credit?
Thanks. And, of course. No attribution necessary, but bookgirl or the name on the plaque in my header is what I use if you do include it.
